What is a packing list in export?
An export packing list is a shipment document that describes the physical packaging and contents of the goods. It commonly helps buyers, freight forwarders, carriers and customs or logistics teams understand how the cargo is packed and where package-level information can be found.
What information should be on a packing list?
- Exporter / shipper and consignee / buyer
- Packing list number and commercial invoice reference
- Origin, loading port, discharge port and transport mode
- Package type and number of packages
- Contents, quantity and package dimensions
- Net weight, gross weight and total CBM
- Container and seal references where applicable
How this tool reduces typing
Instead of filling a large empty spreadsheet, enter one package group at a time. Enter the product, package type, package count, quantity per package, net kilograms per package and three dimensions. Click Add Package and the row is stored and shown immediately. Add another group only when you need one.
Automatic CBM and shipment totals
The calculator uses dimensions in centimetres. For each package group, CBM equals length × width × height ÷ 1,000,000 × package count. Total package count, quantity, net weight, gross weight and CBM are then combined across all package groups.
Packing list vs commercial invoice
A packing list focuses on physical cargo and packaging. A commercial invoice focuses on the commercial transaction and declared value. The two documents should be checked together so product descriptions, quantities, shipment references and package information do not conflict.
Common export packing list mistakes
- Package counts do not match the physical cargo.
- Net and gross weights are confused.
- Dimensions are entered in different units or order.
- Container and seal numbers are omitted when required.
- The packing list is not checked against the final commercial invoice.
Export Packing List Generator FAQs
Is this export packing list generator free?
Yes. It is designed for free browser-based use without signup.
Does the packing list preview update live?
Yes. The preview refreshes automatically when shipment fields or package details change.
Can I add multiple package groups?
Yes. Add each package group separately and remove any group with one click.
How is CBM calculated?
For centimetre dimensions, CBM equals L × W × H ÷ 1,000,000 × package count.
Does it show product prices?
No. A packing list is for physical cargo details, so commercial prices are intentionally excluded.
Can I download a one-page A4 PDF?
Yes. The PDF is generated directly as one fixed A4 page without browser print pagination.
Can I download a PNG?
Yes. The PNG is generated from the same fixed artwork as the preview.
Should quantities match the commercial invoice?
They should be reconciled before shipment so the physical and commercial documents remain consistent.
Is this an official customs document?
No. It is a document-generation tool. Confirm final document requirements with the buyer, freight forwarder, carrier, customs professional or authority involved in the shipment.
